MAX3523 Low-Power DOCSIS 3.1 Programmable-Gain Amp

Maxim’s amplifier portfolio includes a wide selection of operational amplifiers (op-amps), current-sense amplifiers, and comparators for signal conditioning, monitoring, and control applications. Maxim's line of op-amps includes ICs for precision and low noise, high voltage, low power, and space savings, as well as those with CMOS inputs. In addition, Maxim's current-sense amplifiers, which monitor current flow through a shunt (sense) resistor and provide closed-loop feedback of system loads, are designed for high-side and low-side sensing and also for unidirectional and bidirectional current flow through the sense resistor. Finally, Maxim's comparators include ICs with low pin counts that do not require a separate power pin.

Maxim's MAX3523 low-power upstream programmable-gain amplifier is designed to exceed DOCSIS 3.1 upstream transmit requirements. The MAX3523 transmits a combined output power of 68 dBmV over the RF bandwidth of 5 MHz to 204 MHz. An SPI 3-wire interface controls the gain in 1 dB steps over a 60 dB range. The device, available in a 20-pin 5 mm x 5 mm x 0.75 mm TQFN package, delivers high dynamic range and minimizes power dissipation under a +5 V supply rail. The MAX3523 is ideal for cable modems and customer premises equipment.
