The backlight is switched off by a jumper on an additional board. Someone very useful noticed in the comments that the brightness setting can be twisted to a minimum and therefore the image will not be. It was my case.The room was very clean and comfortable. The contrast regulator can make the image completely disparate on the minimum level. Check it before you claim that the screen is broken.
