The use of pre-certified modules reduces the risk of EMC/safety certification failures and saves time for expensive redesigns. RECOM’s REM1 series complements the existing REM 3 W, 6 W, and 10 W medical DC/DC converters by offering a 1 W solution in a compact package.

This state-of-the-art converter features reinforced isolation of 5.2 kV_DC/1 minute and 4.2 kV_AC/1 minute and is certified 2x MOPP with 250 V_AC working voltage in the very compact SIP7 package. Available with 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, or 24 V inputs and 3.3 V, 5 V, or 12 V outputs, the REM1 is a versatile solution with up to 85% efficiency and operates in an ambient temperature range from -40°C up to +90°C. 

A new feature of the IEC/EN 60601 Third Edition medical standard is the inclusion of patient and operator protection. Power supplies must offer a means of operator protection (MOOP) as well as a means of patient protection (MOPP). This means that they need to offer a certain degree of isolation, creepage, and insulation. Typically, a medical-grade mains power supply provides the MOOP, and a separate DC/DC output stage with independent isolation provides the MOPP. For extended electrical safety, devices with direct patient contact require additional 2x MOPP.

The REM1 series meets Class B EMC by using a simple external LC filter and is IEC60601-1-2 (4th Ed.) medically EMC certified. It is also fully certified to IEC/EN/ANSI/AAMI 60601, Third Edition safety standards with CB report and comes with a 5-year warranty.
