The SFH 2704 from Osram Opto Semiconductors has been designed for mobile lifestyle applications such as optical wearable health monitoring. It has a very compact (2.0 mm x 1.8 mm) and flat (0.6 mm) package that can be placed in very space-demanding designs.
It appears completely black to the eye, making it very easy to hide in modern industrial designs. The small and rectangular package allows easy custom setups for sensor arrays and clusters as well as when different areas need to be monitored simultaneously.
The sensor chip is a broadband photodiode, with the characteristic sensitive range of silicon from 400 nm to 1100 nm. It is therefore sensitive to various vital sign monitoring features. Outstandingly low capacitance makes it easy to operate with an external driver and delivers a rise and fall time around 100 ns.
