Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF52811 is a Bluetooth 5.1 direction finding system on chip (SoC) with wide-ranging protocol support. It is the 4th addition to the nRF52 series platform, extending the several applications and use cases already covered by the platform. The nRF52811 SoC is capable of direction finding, one of the latest features of Bluetooth 5.1.
It is built around a 64 MHz Arm Cortex-M4 CPU and has a range of digital peripherals and interfaces such as SPI, UART, PWM, PDM, and TWI. Exceptionally low energy consumption is achieved using a sophisticated on-chip adaptive power management system, and it has a capable 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC).
The radio in the nRF52811 SoC has comprehensive protocol capabilities, including Bluetooth 5.1 directing finding, all Bluetooth 5 features 802.15.4, Thread, Zigbee®, ANT, and 2.4 GHz proprietary. It has 4 dBm TX power and has been optimized to offer the best RX sensitivity of all SoCs in the nRF52 series:
The nRF52811 SoC is supported by nRF5 SDK v15.3.0 and SoftDevice S112, providing examples, libraries, and drivers to get started. The full capabilities of the SoC include Bluetooth 5.1 direction finding, Bluetooth 5 long range, 802.15.4, Thread, and Zigbee.
The nRF52840 DK is the recommend development kit. It emulates the nRF52811 and can be used as a starting point for development before moving over to a custom board. Please note that this development kit does not support Bluetooth direction finding.
